Comicentric 125: Making Ripple Effects by Kickstarting this campaign!
First of all, let me thank Barbra Dillion for helping us with this week’s podcast and providing us with the audio. We zoom’ed on into chat with FanBase Press‘ Barbra Dillon who had some exciting news. They are launching a Kickstarter! Why do you ask is this exciting. Well, the last time they had a Kickstarter campaign was nearly 15 years ago. This time around fanbase press is fundraising to have Jordan Hart’s Ripple Effects: The Deluxe Edition printed. This Eisner and Harvey award nominated story by Jordan Hart is a Dwayne McDuffie Award winning story is about a superhero who has an invisible illness. The superhero is invulnerable to physical harm, but he has type 1 diabetes. So, like superman, but if his own body was kryptonite.
This graphic novel and its author hope to bring to light invisible illnesses, like type one 1 diabetes, that limit a person’s activities, senses, or moments, but is not outwardly visible. Invisible illnesses can be physical, mental, neurological. So, there is more than just one type of invisible illness, issues not brought up in our day to day. Making suffering in silence a common theme when dealing with invisible illnesses. There could be someone you know that is suffering in silence, and this book along with its message is food for thought and understanding.
The Kickstarter for Jordan Hart’s Ripple Effects: The Deluxe Edition begins on September 10th and runs into the October 1st, 2024. This deluxe edition features a forward by Gail Simone, study guides for better understanding, and the coolest part is there is a real rad art gallery. Featuring art from kids with invisible illnesses who have had their illustrations touched up by some extremely gifted comic artist.
AND also, as you can see, I’m posting this on a Wednesday, that’s because tonight you have a chance to purchase some of that original art. Hosted by @davidmbooher Starting tonight September 11, at 7 p.m./PT, there will be a live auction benefiting make a wish foundation. For that you must head on over to Whatnot.
It’s not all business, we also get to chat with Barbra Dillon about her publishing company Fanbase Press and its origins and how they started to publish books with positive messages from an array of artists. We talked about what it takes to be in the corner of artist, writers. When it comes to helping with getting comics made. and a bit of con life and we find out what she is a fan of.
